A DIY Birthday Card to Send Love from Afar

We’re keeping the festive theme going this week! After our bunting banner sewing tutorial, here’s a super simple DIY idea to make an original birthday card.

Do you know someone celebrating their birthday during lockdown or from far away? Make their day extra special with this easy-to-make 3D birthday card! It’s also a great activity to do with kids (yay, another way to keep them busy at home!).

What You’ll Need

For this quick and easy tutorial, gather the following:

  • The printable template (download it here)

  • An envelope (or make one yourself—tutorial available!)

  • Glue

  • A pair of scissors

  • Colored pencils and/or markers

  • Something to write your message

DIY: How to Make a Colorful 3D Birthday Card

Step 1: Download and print the card template.

Step 2: Grab your favorite pencils or markers and color in the design.

Step 3: Cut out both parts of the template.

Step 4: Use the tab on the larger piece to glue the two parts together. Simply apply glue to the tab and stick it under the second part of the template.

Step 5: Now it’s time to fold your rainbow! Fold along each dashed line first forward, then backward to form an accordion shape, starting from the cloud side.

Step 6: Finally, glue your accordion-folded rainbow inside the envelope. When the recipient pulls the cloud, the accordion opens to reveal your message!

You’re done! Your handmade card is ready to surprise and delight someone special by post.

Don’t forget to share your 3D birthday card with us on Instagram or Facebook using the hashtag #papapiqueetmamancoud.
