What Happens to PPMC’s Fabric Scraps? Supporting Associations with Our Leftovers

Many of you have asked: What happens to our fabric scraps at PPMC? Between clearance sales and donations, we give our beautiful textiles a meaningful second life.

Zero Waste: From Hair Accessories to Fabric Donations

First, we make the most of our rolls by producing small items like hair scrunchies and clips minimizing waste and maximizing fabric usage.

Then, at the end of each summer season, we organize a large fabric clearance sale both online and in all our shops. This annual event in early September delights seamstresses and DIY lovers, who hunt down treasures among our leftover stock and end-of-line collections.

Fabric Donations to Local Charities

Despite the popularity of our clearance sales, we’re always left with some remaining scraps.
Over 8 years ago, Nam Pham, founder of PPMC, decided to change that. She built partnerships with Breton associations to give our leftover fabrics a second life.

Each year, Papa Pique et Maman Coud donates fabric scraps to local non-profits who use them for good causes.

Meet Monique: A Volunteer Using Fabric to Help Others

We recently interviewed Monique, a retired occupational physician from Morbihan, who joined two associations after retiring in 2013.
Active and generous, she uses our PPMC fabrics to support vulnerable people through creative projects.

She discovered two causes close to her heart:

  • One supports hospitalized children and elderly residents in nursing homes

  • The other helps improve education and health for children in Madagascar

Monique combined her new passion for sewing with our fabric donations to launch creative workshops.

VMEH 56: Helping Children Heal Through Creativity

In 2013, Monique joined VMEH 56 (Visiting the Sick in Hospitals and Care Homes), a group of volunteers offering support to patients across Morbihan.
She chose to work specifically in the pediatrics unit at Scorff Hospital in Lorient, bringing joy and distraction to hospitalized children.

Four afternoons a week, volunteers run creative workshops with the children: drawing, painting, gluing, and crafting. PPMC fabrics are cut, glued, and transformed into pencil pots, decorated boxes, or colorful collages.

“The kids absolutely love the colors and prints. They don’t know which fabric to pick because they’re all ‘so beautiful’,” says Monique.
“Their imagination is incredible it’s like fabric therapy for children.”

In the evenings, volunteers from VMEH continue visiting the pediatric ward, reading stories and playing board games to comfort children during the loneliest hours of the day.

These simple acts of kindness bring joy, comfort, and color to their hospital rooms.

Sewing for a Cause: Supporting Children in Madagascar

In 2014, Monique also joined EAM Zaza Malagasy, a humanitarian association dedicated to improving the lives of children in Madagascar through education, healthcare, and nutrition.

Sadly, Madagascar is one of the world’s poorest countries. EAM’s actions on the ground resonated deeply with Monique’s values.

Using our fabric scraps, she sews cushion covers, wallets, pouches, bibs, and more all sold once a year at the Larmor-Plage flea market.

The prices range from €2 to €8, and 100% of proceeds are donated to EAM Zaza Malagasy to support schools and food programs for children.
