Discover Angers in One Day

Discovering Angers through Papa Pique et Maman Coud starts now!
We’re taking you on a journey to explore fabrics in the city of Angers. With its rich history and location along the route to the Loire Valley castles, you’ll discover activities to enjoy and learn about the story of Papa Pique et Maman Coud fabrics.

Angers and Its History

The large city of Angers is located in Maine-et-Loire, 218 km from the Papa Pique et Maman Coud headquarters in Saint-Philibert.
Angers was once the medieval seat of the Plantagenêt dynasty, which is evident in its timber-framed houses, churches, and cathedrals scattered throughout the city.

One of the first historic landmarks we admired was the Saint Maurice Cathedral in Angers. Standing 77 metres tall, it has been open since 1523 and serves as the Catholic cathedral of the diocese of Angers.

Located at 4 Rue Saint-Christophe, the cathedral is just a short walk from our overnight stay, L’Oisellerie.

We particularly loved the breathtaking view from the cathedral over a cobblestone path leading directly to the River Maine. In autumn, the colourful trees make it a stunning sight.

The Streets of Angers

The River Maine flows right through Angers, originating from the Loire and running across the city centre.
A stroll along the Maine is a must, especially in autumn or spring when the scenery is at its finest.

Things to Do in Angers

When you only have a day, time flies!
We wanted to both take part in an activity and wander the city centre under the warm autumn sun.

With Mia, we decided to try a bit of sewing. Véronique from Cracote & Cie introduced us to the basics in a beginner’s sewing class.

But before starting, we needed fabric and what better excuse to visit Sorya at the Papa Pique et Maman Coud boutique, located at 51 Rue Saint-Aubin.

The Angers PPMC Boutique

The Angers boutique is one of only four PPMC stores in France offering fabric by the metre. Whether you’re looking for cotton, upholstery fabric, or coated cotton, Sorya will guide you to the best choice for your project.

She’s also passionate about sewing and is part of a local sewing group, Les Bobines Angevines, where seamstresses in Angers share advice, support, and inspiration.

The Different Fabrics at Papa Pique et Maman Coud

For years, we’ve been selling fabric both online and in-store. You’ll find three main types:

  • Cotton – the base for all our PPMC creations.

  • Coated Cotton – regular cotton treated with a coating for added durability and waterproofing.

  • Upholstery Fabric – our coated canvas has a matte, plasticised finish, making it perfect for tablecloths, outdoor cushions, curtains, and more.

What Can You Make with PPMC Fabric?

Véronique has been based in Angers for several years and has a deep passion for sewing. She offers sewing classes, machine maintenance, embroidery services, and even sells sewing machines—like the Elna models we tested during our first class.

For our project, we made fabric storage baskets. We chose PPMC’s “Ramage Or” cotton fabric, a soft white fabric with shimmering gold accents, lined with plain white cotton.

A big thank you to Véronique for such an interesting and engaging class—perfect for beginners like us!

Where to Stay and Eat in Angers

We don’t usually share where we stay, as they’re often standard hotels you can easily find online.
But this time, we discovered a true gem: L’Oisellerie.

This 16th-century house, listed as a Historic Monument, offers five charming guest rooms, a shop selling local products, and a vaulted cellar. Ideally located between the historic centre and the main shopping streets, it’s the perfect base for exploring Angers.

We were warmly welcomed by Marylène, one of the owners.
A night here includes breakfast starting from €87.50, and we have to say it was a real treat! Local products, homemade crêpes… the perfect start to the day.

Each room has a unique name Le Refuge, Les Inséparables, La Volière, Le Nid, and Le Pigeonnier and is decorated with care.

The shop is open from Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., offering a variety of regional products.

Our trip to Angers was short but sweet.
If you’re visiting, don’t forget to stop by and say hello to Sorya at the boutique—she’ll be delighted to welcome you. And for fabric lovers, make sure to read our article on Caen, another stop in our fabric-filled adventure.

See you soon for the next stage of our journey!
