Visit Caen with PPMC!

Normandy our beautiful Normandy! For the second stop of Season 2 of our “Discovering Your PPMC Boutiques” tour, we’re off to explore the lovely city of Caen.

Between history, sightseeing, sewing, walks, and gastronomy, we invite you to discover Caen in a different way. For this stop, we’re shining the spotlight on fabric, giving you a closer look at our Papa Pique et Maman Coud textiles.

Caen and Its History

Caen is one of Normandy’s major cities, just a few hours from Étretat and 2 hours from Rouen. This port city is also a place of remembrance nearby you’ll find the D-Day landing beaches and the Caen Memorial.

We explored Caen’s past through the Museum of the History of Caen, located inside the castle. This quick but fascinating visit takes you from prehistory to near present day, traveling through the centuries to see how housing, traditions, beliefs, specialties, and industries evolved. It’s a cultural and historical walk that helps you appreciate Caen’s place in history.

A short stroll down a side street brought us to the Church of Saint-Pierre de Caen, just steps from the castle impossible to miss!

Then it was on to the Caen PPMC boutique to discover our famous cotton and coated fabrics.

Discovering Fabric in Caen

The Papa Pique et Maman Coud boutique in Caen offers a wide selection of fabrics sold by the meter, as well as in 50 cm, 1 m, and 2 m cuts.

Caen is one of only four PPMC stores in France that sells fabric by the meter our other boutiques only sell pre-cut fabric due to space limitations.

What Is Fabric at PPMC?

Fabric is our core material the heart of Papa Pique et Maman Coud products since the brand’s creation. Every year, we select patterns and designs to be printed on our cotton and coated fabrics.

For over 25 years, Nam Pham and her creative team have designed items in coated fabric. This is our specialty: coated cotton fabric is cotton that has been treated to make it more waterproof and durable than regular fabric. Plus, it’s easy to machine wash at 30°C (without fabric softener).

At the Caen boutique, run by Emilie, you’ll find a wide variety of coated and cotton fabrics, perfect for sewers who want to create custom, original designs.

Boutique address:
104 Rue Saint-Pierre, 14000 Caen
Opening hours: Monday 1:30 p.m.–7 p.m., Tuesday to Saturday 10 a.m.–7 p.m.

What to Make with PPMC Fabric in Caen?

During our day in Caen, we met Sophie, owner of the boutique La Maison du Bouton.

Sophie has always been passionate about sewing making clothes, towels, pouches, and more. She took over the shop 22 years ago, originally located in a downtown shopping arcade, and moved it 7 years ago to Rue Démolombe in Caen.

Inside, you’ll find a true “Aladdin’s cave” with thousands of buttons, knitting yarn, haberdashery items, and of course sewing machines, sergers, and embroidery machines by SINGER.

In Sophie’s workshop, you can have your sewing machine repaired or serviced (all brands welcome) and even take sewing classes. Whether you’re a beginner or intermediate, you can learn to sew coated fabric, embroider a bag, and more.

For more information, contact the shop at +33 (0)2 31 86 11 07.
