What is bias?

Bias is a cut strip of fabric used to edge a piece of fabric with curves, adapting to the curve of the seam, without stiffening or creasing the fabric.

What is bias binding used for?

Bias gives a clean, crisp finish to the curved edges or English borders of a garment or accessory. It also adds a touch of originality and personalization, as it can be matched or contrasted with the main fabric of the project.

How to use bias binding

To use bias, it's often best to prepare it before applying it. This involves pinching it in half lengthwise and ironing to mark the fold. It can then be attached to the edge of the fabric with pins or a few stitches. Once attached, the bias can be sewn in place on the sewing machine or by hand, following the curved edge or angle of the project.
